Definitely picturesque, quiet and peaceful THE TRAIL WAS PAVED ALL THE WAY AND NICELY SHADED WITH RASPBERRIES GROWING ALONG THE SIDES, I RETURNED TO THE START OF THE WALKWAY OVER THE HUDSON TRAIL WHICH WAS CROWDED BUT THAT WAS TO EXPECTED SEEING ITS POPULARITY AND GREAT VIEWS. One of the things I really liked is the lack of level crossings making this more of a bikers trail than a walking trail with a lot of trail where you will only see bikes for a few miles. But I love this about this route: It joins towns youd probably never think of visiting. THIS TIME I STARTED FROM HOPEWELL JUNCTION JUST A MILE OR 2 OFF THE TACONIC PKWY. This is a vital connection if a path is to hook up New York City bike travelers with the Dutchess Trail, and the trails west of the Hudson River. It goes parallel to the river and it is very pretty. The Walkway is spectacular (even on an overcast morning)! Dream and hope for the day when this trail fully connects with Hudson Valley Rail Trail. This trail is well marked and is a great combination of climbing steep rocky sections and walking flat sections with decent views. Sleepy starts to describe it, but theres something more. With the recent rain the, hole for the foundation had filled with water and only the top of the concrete form could be seen. Dutchess Rail Trail. All are great. Beautiful!!! Cannot say enough as to the spectacular 360 degree views from the highest point on the "Walkway". The adjacet sand/ soil path is level, clean and well maintained. This is all part of a section of NY's Empire State trail, and includes off road portions in Kingston, NY (the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail - gravel), continues through New Paltz, NY to the Hudson Valley RT, across the Walkway Over The Hudson and then to the Dutchess section.
